STUDYING THE STRUCTURE OF VISION PATHOLOGY IN SCHOOL-AGE GIRLS
Abstract
Visual impairment in childhood has a negative and sometimes irreversible impact on children's psychological, educational and social performance, which can persist into adulthood and affect the quality of life of individuals. WHO estimates that at the start of VISION 2020, about 19 million children under 15 years of age were visually impaired and 1.4 million children were irreversibly blind, and predicted that half of blindness was preventable.
The purpose of our study was to study the structure of vision pathology in school-age girls.
The study involved 79 blind and visually impaired girls, including 5 totally blind and 74 visually impaired, aged from 7 to 17 years. All children were divided according to age into three groups: junior, middle and senior school age
Thus, an examination of blind and visually impaired children revealed that the first place in the structure of vision pathology in children is occupied by congenital pathology.
In turn, the first place in the structure of congenital anomalies of the development of the visual analyzer is occupied by damage to the refractive media of the eye, the second place in frequency of occurrence is damage to the reproductive part of the eye, and in third place is damage to the auxiliary apparatus of the eye and pathology of the eyeball.
